Itinerary
We will depart from the Imperial City of Cusco around 5:30 am and head toward the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, we will have the opportunity to have breakfast if you didn't have one in Cusco. We will continue to Abra Málaga (4,350 meters), the starting point of our bike tour. After a brief orientation briefing, your guide will provide you with the necessary equipment for the activity.
We will begin our 3-hour, 55-km bike descent to reach the town of Huamanmarca. During the ride, we will experience the beauty of the snow-capped mountains and the rainforest. It is here, in the rainforest, that our adventure through the Peruvian Amazon begins. We will cross small streams and enjoy the change from cold to tropical weather.
We will arrive at the town of Santa María (1,200 meters above sea level), where we will have lunch and spend our first night in a hotel. In the afternoon, we have the option of rafting on the Vilcanota River. This river offers category III and V+ rapids; therefore, you will be provided with helmets, windbreakers, and category V life jackets. This activity is available from April to December, and you must be able to swim to participate, according to Peruvian law.

After a delicious breakfast, we'll be ready to begin the first day of trekking to Santa Teresa. During the first two hours of the trek, we'll ascend the terrain. Along the way, we'll make several stops to learn a little more about the rich flora and fauna of the area we'll be in.
We'll also stop at the home of a local family, where we'll learn about their customs and traditions. We'll then cross a section of the Inca Trail that once connected the Sacred City of Machu Picchu with the last Inca refuge, Vilcabamba. Here, our guide will explain a little more about the history of the Incas and the Inca communication system (the Route of the Incas).
At this point, we'll have the pleasure of experiencing some of the most impressive views of the Huancarccasa Canyon and the majestic Salkantay. We'll then descend to the village of Quellomayo, where we'll enjoy a delicious lunch and a relaxing break in the restaurant's hammocks.
