Itinerary
We will begin the experience with pickup from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco and travel to the district of Chinchero, located approximately 35 minutes from the city. From there, we will continue to the community of Ocutuan - Umasbamba, where a local family will welcome you with music, traditional dances and a warm Andean greeting.
After the welcome, you will meet the host family, visit the local home and learn about some important aspects of community organization. Then, you will participate in the preparation of a typical lunch made with fresh local ingredients, a perfect opportunity to discover Andean cuisine up close.
During the afternoon, you will take part in daily activities such as herding alpacas and sheep, collecting firewood or gathering plants used for natural wool dyeing. At the end of the day, you will share a traditional dinner with the family and spend the night in a local home, enjoying a simple, authentic and close experience.
The second day begins with a typical breakfast prepared by the host family. Then, you will walk through the community to discover its streets, local church and part of the daily life of its residents.
Later, you will participate in an Andean textile workshop, where you will learn about wool shearing, dyeing with natural plants, traditional weaving and the cultural meaning of the designs. You will also have the opportunity to purchase handicrafts directly from local artisans.
Afterwards, we will visit Piuray Lagoon, an important natural area for the community.
