APURIMAC REGION

Apurimac Region is located at the Peruvian Andes. The capital is called Abancay 2378 Meters ASL. The best ways to Arrive Apurimac Region will be from Lima and Cusco

Saywite Stone

This amazing archeological place is located in Concacha Village 3500 meters ASL. Located on the high way Cusco-Abancay.  46 Km away from Curahuasi town. It is an archeological place built probably at the Incas time. The most important thing here is a stone monolith which was carven. There are many representations of animals. For example, pumas, toads, birds. Also, there is a representation of persons, and geometric shapes. This stunning monolith is representing the importance of Andean beliefs.

Connoc Hot springs

Connoc hot spring is located on the same highway Cusco-Abancancay. 25 km before Curahuasi town. The springs can reach 26 to 35 degrees Celcius. This amazing place is a great stop on the way to Abancay for having some relax. You can find restaurants and basic accommodations. However, you can take tends. the best hour that you can visit will be at night, to skip the mosquitos.

Archeological Place of Sondor

This amazing Archeological place is located 25 km from Andahuaylas province. in the district of Pacucha. It was the capital of the Chancas Culture. the Chancas culture starts their kingdom at the same time as Incas. 1200 ac approx. They conquer all the Apurimac region and took as the capital Sondor. In the 1450 AC approx the king of the Incas conquer the Chancas and took Sondor as a new Inca City. After this war, the Incas culture starts its expansion. Sondor is a big archeological place that has a different sector. you need a half-day to delight this breathtaking monument.

Pacucha Lake

Pacucha Lake is located 17 km away from Andahuaylas 3125 meters ASL. It is the most important lake from Apurimac Region. Here is possible to practice fishing. You can find trout and Pejerrey, which is a native fish from the Andes. The meaning of Pacucha is Golden Lake. There are many legends that talk about Sirens.

National Sanctuary of Ampay

It is located in the district of Tambourco, 20 minutes away from Abancay. It was created on July 23, 1987. The Meaning of Ampay comes from the Quechua language that means “here is located”. The Area from Ampay National Sanctuary is 3635 hectares.

It is the most important Natural Park in the Abancay region. This amazing place is protecting a native tree called Intimpa, other persons called Romerillo as well. Likewise, is protecting   82 species of animals, and natural places like the Ampay peak.

Pampachiri Stone forest

Pampachiri Stone forest is one of the most important tourist attractions from the Apurimac Region. It is a natural stone formation that has a cone shape. The elevation of this breathtaking

This intriguing place is located 111 away from Andahuaylas approx the only way to get here will be just by car. There is one part of this amazing place that is called the house of the Smurfs. Because there are some houses built below some of these stones.

Stone Jail Ccacca carcel at Apurimac Region

The stone jail is located in the district of Haquira, Cotabamba Province, Apurimac region. According to Colonial history, the Spanish people came to sith America with the purpose to find treasures and gold. Therefore, when they realized about gold mines in Haquira town, they obligate the natives to excavate. When they didn’t find anything, they decided to use these caves as jails to punish the Andean natives.

If you are interested in Peruvian traditions, the best time to visit these breathtaking places will be in February. When they celebrate the Carnivals. People from the Apurimac region make big and colorful festivals during Carnivals. Something that is common these days are traditional Yunsadas. People decorate a tree and they start dancing around it.

Typical food from Apurimac Region
